...in that it differed from popular games at the time. It would be fair to acknowledge that King Graham of Daventry from the King's Quest Series was usually involved in unlikely events, whereas Revolution Software came up with the idea of creating an adventure game that although it didn't take itself TOO serious, did have a serious story, bravely putting themselves somewhere between Lucas Arts and Sierra. It was the first built with the Virtual Theatre Engine allowing in-game characters to wander around its world independent of each other, performing everyday life actions, which before had never been featured in ANY game. A 2D point-and-click interface adventure with a system of drop down lists, you guide your hero Diermot through his world and interact with the environment selecting from different commands via the mouse, picking up various objects which can be used with other collectable items, with parts of the scenery, or with other people in order to solve puzzles. You'll engage in dialogue with other characters through textual conversation trees which will provide hints as to what needs to be done in order to progress through the plot. A few action oriented battle scenes are also part of the game. Somewhat extra-ordinary is the fact that all sounds are done via music, placed just in the right place, as well as tunes very sparingly utilized to create a somber world. One might say this game was REVOLUTIONary for its time; pardon the pun. You can play through it in three or four easy sittings. in a style that resembles classic animated films. There are designers, today, who make games purposely pixelated, or so they say. Games like the Broken Sword Series were trying to get away from pixelated graphics and present smooth animated characters. Games of the past had amazing stories, as back in the day they had to rely on such to make up for the pixelated graphics. Today, purposely pixelated games look terrible, and many times the story matches the graphics. The story in the Broken Sword series, this being episode 2, the remastered version, is intriguing to say the least. The original "Smoking Mirror" had many issues; pixelated backgrounds, poor quality audio, and some of the dialogue was out of place. All these issues have been addressed and improved upon, plus additions have been made; a diary that enables the player to keep track of what's been done, an in-game hint system, fully animated facial expressions, enhanced graphics overall, and high quality music. A point-and-click interface, you'll guide George Stobbart through the game's world and interact with the environment selecting from multiple commands, as well as a certain Nicole Collard, in select portions of the game. You'll engage in real dialogue, not just text, to gain hints as to what needs to be done. A handy map for travel that new locations discovered are added to as the story unfolds helps get from one area to another. By the way, it is possible to die. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I imagine a 5 minute video is worth much more, so if you'd take the time, please check out... https://youtu.be/R7Oeoomzq6A Thanks for reading this review, and perhaps watching the video. If Gothic Gold is a novel, then Witcher 3 Game of the Year Edition is Lord of the Rings! This is not a game called Witcher, it's a simulation OF a Witcher! It's not one game, it's a new episode every time you sit down to play! I NEVER got tired of it! Each new village or city, every strange cave (on land and under water), a plethora of monsters, and if you take the time to watch the video, you'll see there's plenty of low-lifes to be taken care of...permanently! This game is like a painting, where you finish, then wonder if you should add one more stroke of the brush, only to stop mid air as your hand moves toward the painting, because you're not quite sure where to place it. A Masterpiece! I'd like to see what CDProjekt could create with a smaller canvas but the same amount of detail. Oh, I suppose some salivate at the adult content, but I'm here to tell you that the entire game is a blast, and you can make it through without a single sexual encounter. I didn't have time for that. I was too busy moving on to the next story, the next monster slaying, the next "capital punishment" at the hand of the Witcher. Plus it's hilarious to see the reaction when a pass is made and you brush it aside. Stay true to Yenn, and keep it behind closed doors. I was actually sad when I completed the game, including both expansion packs, yet felt that the content ending as it did was just right. Sort of a great turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffed dressing, corn on the cob lavished in butter, where you eat just enough to the point of relaxation with a cup of grog and a smile on your face. Don't miss this game! It's a defining point in gaming history. https://youtu.be/vSdz6JAbToc Just highlight the above then hit Control c, place your cursor in your browser and hit Control v, then hit Return...and enjoy!

This is not a game called Witcher, it's a simulation in the life of a Witcher! It's not one experience, it's a new episode every time you sit down to play! I NEVER got tired of it. Each new village or city, every strange cave whether below land or water, were never a repeat with slight changes, they were always unique. A plethora of monsters, and if you choose to watch the video, you'll see a demonstration put on by the Witcher himself as to how to take care of low-lifes permanently, of which there are plenty. This game is like a painting, where you finish, then wonder if you should add one more stroke of the brush, only to stop and realize, if you add, or take away, it'll ruin a Masterpiece. Plus it's hilarious to see the subtle reaction when a pass is made and you brush it aside. Besides, I wanted to stay true to Yenn, and keep all behind closed doors. Beautifully rendered scenery that never gets old; sprawling cities, so huge one can easily get lost. Exploration is rewarded with puzzling details. Combat is easily handled with an XBox 360 controller. This action adventure is marred only by irritating arguments between Cutter Slade and Marion Wolfe. There are some loose ends that are left untied, and the ending, that you fight so hard to finally get to, plays out with little interaction on the gamer's part, much too quickly. However, if action adventure is your genre, I highly recommend that you play this one through. https://youtu.be/sH-QH8ihzsc Just highlight the above, then control-c, put your cursor in your web browser, then control-v, then hit enter and enjoy!

Eye of the Beholder Many parts are agonizingly tricky, but there is always enough information given throughout the course of the game that if you reach a seemingly dead-end you can rest assured that you're either missing an item or your team just isn't strong enough. So as a solution, all floors eventually can be reached if you have to back-track, providing you have the magic key in your possession. This game is just plain fun, and VERY gratifying when you win. https://youtu.be/DZlhAVY0rF8 Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon An amazing game with surprises around every corner. However BE WARNED! Make sure you save healing potions that you find early, for there is an entire level where you cannot rest to heal your characters. This game can be TOUGH! Save often! The inventory system is easy and speedy. Be extremely careful, things are not always as they seem. Fighting requires patience, fast moves, and leading the enemy to an area where you can't be boxed in! There are no dead-ends. All floors can later be reached if you find you're missing a crucial item, in fact there are times the game itself will warn you if you're not ready for a certain level. So much fun to play as well as a gratifying ending, including a final plaque of your heroes who made it through to the end! This one is hard, but ohhh so good! https://youtu.be/s2qeI1EQ6Xk Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor The third and final of the series. Some new elements are introduced; an outdoor level that requires clearing some trees to progress, and an underwater level where you need to act fast before you run out of oxygen! Enemies are faster and therefore harder to defeat, especially the final battle! There is a level where you cannot rest to heal, but THIS TIME you can rid the level of its curse enabling you to do so. Very cool indeed! https://youtu.be/LYlxl0mmfj4 Just hilight the above and CTRL C then CTRL V into your browser.

OK, let's get one thing straight. This KQ series began in 1984, and bears little if any resemblance to the new KQ series that began in 2015. I tried the 2015 instalment via XBox, bought the whole thing. As soon as I realized the main character was being presented as a bumbling idiot, which is just what the creators were trying to do, I dropped the series and hit the uninstall button. This series, which is the original, depicts you as a hero, a worthy candidate of a throne, not some bumbling half-wit. I have played this original series from 1-8, but the first four were just tedious, what with the text parser and all. If you were to play one of the first four, just to get a taste of what it was like in the early days of PC adventure gaming, I'd choose KQ4 The Perils of Rosella. It kind of shows how the game was being modernized graphic-wise, but still has that old text parser. As far as the final four, the best by far is KQ8. It is so good, the voice acting, the myriad of characters, the variable and well conveyed environments; I'd play for hours, so immersed I'd forget to save, die, and end up having to go waaay back. Lesson - don't forget to save! KQ5 is also tedious. KQ6 has multiple endings, which I do not like, KQ7 was a bit cartoony, but KQ8, ohhhhh 8, brought out the zing in amazing! So if you want to try some gaming history when men were still thought of as valiant heros when it came to adventure games, I recommend KQ 5-8. https://youtu.be/YvlimrtBjEo
